Leonie Martin was the least gifted of the four sisters of St. Therese of Lisieux. She was an emotionally disturbed child who suffered and caused anguish in her family. Her mother, the heroic Zelie Martin, suffered most of all. Marie Baudouin-Croix, well known French poet, has examined Zelie's correspondence with her daughters, her sister, her brother, and her sister-in-law. We see the backward child, the despair of many, who was the first to follow Therese's Little Way. It was only after three valiant but unsuccessful attempts that Leonie was finally accepted by the Visitation Order in Caen. She succeeded in conquering a 'tough' temperament, so that by the time of her death in 1941, at the age of seventy-eight, she was regarded as a saint and her convent at Caen was inundated with letters testifying to her posthumous aid.

Leonie Martin A Difficult Life eBook Marie BaudouinCroix

This was an in depth look at the middle sister of the Martin family. I truly came to feel affection for this Venerable Servant of God, for her courage, perserverance and deep faith and love of her family which carried her through her "difficulties." If Leonie was born in our generation, she would have been labled ADHD, Opposition Defiant Disorder, Learning Disabled and probably a lower than average IQ from her difficult beginnings and apparent failure to thrive as an infant. This is a terrific testimony of hope for kids with disabilities and their families who are so bewildered as how to help them.

Leonie Martin A Difficult Life eBook Marie BaudouinCroix Reviews

I was so amazed to read this wonderful account which was recommended to my by my spiritual advisor. As someone on the autism spectrum, I definitely believe Léonie may been somewhere on the spectrum, and reading her story has definitely helped increase my faith in the fact that God has great plans for me and all of us. Recommend this anyone who feels discouraged, inferior, jealous, or insignificant. May God Bless You All!!! Léonie Martin, Pray For Us!!!!!!
I thought the book about Leonie, her family, associates, and friends was well written and interesting. I had never heard of Leonie, and in learning about her I received insight about her sister, St. Theresa of the Child Jesus (The Little Flower), who was her younger sister. It is amazing that all of the Martin daughters entered convents. Glad I read it.
I AM CURRENTLY READING THIS BOOK AND I AM GAINING A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PAIN LEONIE SUFFERED. SHE IS THE SISTER OF ST. THERESE, THE LITTLE FLOWER. I BELIEVE LEONIE MAY SOME DAY BE CANONIZED AS A SAINT TOO. SHE FOUND HER TRUE VOCATION BY FOLLOWING HER SISTER'S LITTLE WAY IN THE VISITATION ORDER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, ESPECIALLY, FOR ALL OF THE DEVOTEES OF THE LITTLE FLOWER AND THE MARTIN FAMILY.
I loved this book. Leonie was an amazing person, she is the only sister of the four that ended up in a monastery away from her other four sisters. She tried different times to enter the convent and finally she entered a convent and stayed until her death at age 79. One of the requests of St. Therese's was that Leonie would make it to Heaven with the rest of the family. I am sure that Leonie did for trying so hard to serve God.
This is an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Family of the "Little Flower" also Leonie Martin
is an excellent person to pray to if they are having a problem with a young person, also it shows that the most unlikely person
can become a Saint, which I am sure she will be one day. I throughly enjoyed every page.
This is a beautifully written biography about Leonie Martin the sister of St. Therese of Lisieux or the Little Flower as she is more popularly known. Leonie was a child with what we today now know as “learning disabilities”. The book is a beautiful story relating how with God’s grace and her deep faith she was able. To overcome these obstacles and become a deeply holy person in her own life. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to live St. Therese’s Way of Spiritual Childhood in their own life.
After reading this book, Leonie has become one of my favorite "go to" spiritual friends. She, as much as Therese, has grabbed my heart through her story in this little book. Her humility, as well as her willingness to persevere no matter how many trials or setbacks or challenges, inspires me more than I can ever express. It is beautifully written and down-to-earth, focusing on her struggles with her own temperament (something I can truly relate to) and her spiritual approach and path. Therese's "Story of a Soul" has been my favorite book since my teenage years, but this has taken a place right alongside it.
